5 Stars An indepth book to help you really learn Spanish.
I had read the review that this book was too dumbed down, and I almost did not buy it but I had to for a college course I am taking. I am extremely glad that I purchased this workbook and have had friends ask me for copies of the lessons.

The lessons are not dumb they are broken down piece by piece so that you can understand what they are saying and be able to internalize it. The book has translations and pictures to help enforce the new information as well as phonetic spellings of the new vocabulary so you can say things correctly.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is just starting to learn Spanish, or for someone like me who has not kept up with it since I graduated high school almost six years ago. It is a great book and it even comes with a bonus cd, which features a woman helping you learn how to speak the alphabet and to get started on grammar.

This is a great book.

1 Star COMMMENTS ON INSTANT IMMERSION SPANISH
EXCELLENT CHAPTERS WITH GRADUAL ADDITION OF NEW WORKS AND GRAMMAR. NOT TOO COMPILCATED FOR THE BEGINNER.

1 Star NO way
This book is way too elementary. I sent it back to Amazon after ordering it. I was very disappointed. If you want a workbook for the CDs or for basic spanish practice, get “Spanish in 10 minutes a Day” instead. It’s farm more interesting.

3 Stars Spanish Workbook
This Spanish workbook immerses you a bit too fast. They randomly throw words and verbs at you in no particular order. It’s very confusing to someone who has no background in Spanish. Once you’ve already taken a little Spanish, it’s a great workbook. But don’t try to use it as your only guide.

1 Star It doesn’t work and Tech Support is not answering my requests for help
I purchased this product from Palo Alto in November. I haven’t been able to use it at all. I downloaded it from their website after my purchase. I have since uninstalled it and reinstalled it using the CD Rom they sent me after my purchase.

The problems I am experiencing are #1 I cannot type anything into a business plan. There is some huge error in the software, I have contacted Palo Alto twice and have yet to hear anything back.

Also there are supposed to be instructions for each section and in the instruction sections there is nothing (it’s blank).

I am pretty upset, I have used older versions of this program and they were great. Last month when I purchased this I was very excited to get started on a business plan. I’m still very anxious. For some reason Palo Alto’s technical support is taking their time to get back to me. For now, I give this a 1 out of 5 stars. Hopefully they fix the problem, I will gladly update my review at that time.

I recommend waiting to purchase this product until after Palo Alto works out all the issues with it. The older versions work perfectly fine, so you might consider buying an older version and then paying for the upgrade later, after they work out the software issues.

5 Stars Necessity for Starting Any Business
This product was recommended to me by someone that started their own business about 5 years ago! It is very easy to use! It allows you to move through and skip around to areas you’d like to work on at specific times.

5 Stars Great tool for my consulting business
I have used Business Plan Pro for 5 years both for starting my own business and for consulting with clients who are starting businesses. The sample plans are superb – a wide variety and a solid support for anyone who may be intimidated by the process of writing a business plan.

5 Stars Couldn’t have had better help!
I have used Business Plan Pro in the past, and I am thrilled with the new version. I have had no problems and in fact love the new charting features.

I fell like the UI is improved and the software is a god send to my small business. I don’t know what I would do if I had to struggle through business planning on my own!

5 Stars Good Product, great support.
I have had several versions of Business Plan Pro over the years, and have loved it. The new user interface in Version 11 has made it much easier to keep my business plan upt to date. I especially like that it gives you an estimate on how long each of the steps should take. It makes the whole process less daunting.

I read one of the reviews about the Tech Support at Palo Alto Software, and that made me want to post this message. I have had to call tech support in the past and they have been really good at helping me troubleshoot the issues I have come up with. I had a problem similar to the other poster in an older version, where it looked like nothing was typing into the program, and all my menus were blank. Tech Support help me find that this issue was caused by a high contrast window setting on my PC, and not something in the software. Changing my desktop appearance resolved the issue.

Humanistic Economics The New Challenge

Humanistic Economics The New Challenge

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Significant challenge to economic orthodoxy
Wonderful challenge to orthodoxy of “the dismal science” which goes beyond standard right/left ideology…though Lutz/Lux fail to acknowledge it, what they advocate essentially falls in tune with a largely forgotten 3rd way between state socialism and rabit laissez-faire econ…namely that of anarcho-syndicalism…Focusing mainly on the Basque achievements in Mondragon in Spain, the book puts forward a central thesis about local autonomy and deconstructs the dominant mythology of (Neo-)liberal economic theory. A welcome critique still relevant today despite its original publishing in 1988–worthy of space on any public library shelf despite it’s apparent (but fallacious) vintage.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars A solid overview of the industry!
Start Your Own Executive Recruiting Service provides anyone interested in starting a search firm with a good overview of the industry’s basics. This book provides practical information and realistically sets expectations. It’s not a complete “how-to”, there are gaps that will be filled with experience and from other sources but it’s a good part of the research and due diligence that must be done before starting your own company – whether you’re an experienced recruiter or looking for a career changed. (I have over 15 years in the recruiting industry – the last 7 as the owner of a mid-sized IT staffing firm with a national client-base providing both staff augmentation and permanent placement.)

1 Star Take it from one who knows – do NOT waste your money!
As a Certified Personnel Consultant with 20 years as an executive recruiter, and the owner of a recruiting firm for 8 years, take my word for it, don’t waste your money on this book. I bought it because I thought I might get some useful tips on certain aspects of the business I may have overlooked. Immediately, after reading the first few pages, I knew this person was not an executive recruiter, nor had she ever owned a recruiting business! Anyone who thinks they can just open up a recruiting business without a minimum of five years in the executive recruiting business (and not all of it on the Internet) is mistaken. I take that back. They can certainly start a recruiting business! However, I doubt those having less than five years of being successful as an executive recruiter, would make it past a few months, a year at the most. (That is, unless they hired seasoned executive recruiters to work for them. )

It’s a tough business. Most people think you just talk on the phone (or surf the net for jobs and candidates) and rake in the money!

*Read articles on the Web linked to The Fordyce Letter, publishers of a newsletter to the executive recruiting industry, the “bible” of executive recruiting. Then go to sites of leaders in the field, mentioned there. People like Bill Radin, William Finlay, Don Ramer, etc. I’m sure there is an FAQ somewhere on one of these sites that will give you the best information on opening up a recruiting firm! (If not, after reading some of their articles, you will realize there’s more to it than you thought!)

I’m writing this to get the word out that (a) this book is completely useless, and (b) no book on opening up an executive recruiting firm will help you if you don’t have a few years as a sucessful, repeat successful – meaning you’ve made in excess of at least 25 placements as both the originator of the search assignment and the candidate – executive recruiter.

This is the first time I’ve ever written a review, but I felt compelled to say this, and to particularly warn unsuspecting people not to even think about opening an executive recruiting business without doing lots of legitimate research on the subject! (Which you won’t get from this book.)

5 Stars Straight forward, practical, to the point
Looking to make a career change, I picked up this book at a local book store (Sorry, Amazon!) and I’m glad I did. This is not strictly a “how to” book. There is a fair amount of discussion – most from actual recruiters – on what it’s like to be in this business. This is a good book for someone who hasn’t quite made up their mind to start a recruiting business. There’s enough detail to begin the process of creating a business plan but you will likely need to look elsewhere for specifics on recruiting technology, sales techniques, etc.

For the price, it’s quite a deal!

5 Stars Great initial read
I found this book to be exactly what I was looking for, for an initial read on the business of executive recruiting. It is not intended for experienced recruiters, but I have an M.A. in personnel and several years in HR and career transition coaching and still found it to be a good overview of the E. R. profession. I have a couple of dozen other books on E. R., but this one delivers on its main purpose very well. Helps in seeing the forest for the trees. An excellent first read!

5 Stars Clear, concise, and comprehensive
Excellent start-up guide. In just over 100 pages, the author gives real-life details about the costs and benefits of starting your recruiting firm. Touches on home-based office versus renting professional space, has lists of approximate start-up costs, and a realistic view of some pitfalls to avoid. As a recruiter who’s been in the business, she was dead-on about what it takes to make it in the field without being too sunny or too bitter.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Installation Problems Prevent a Review…
I would love to review Adobe InDesign CS3, but I can’t get the program to install on my new Vista system. Adobe technical support requested that I send them a conguration file, but its been almost a week and I haven’t received a call back. Having used PageMaker for years, I look forward to using InDesign, but Adobe obviously needs to make some improvements.

4 Stars moving up to InDesign CS3
I’ve been a long term PageMaker user and owned every version from 1.0 upwards to 7.0. So it was always going to be a hard thing to make the change to anything else. I bought InDesign mainly because I was getting problems with the more demanding DTP jobs that required separations, as well as feeling that more of what I created separately in Corel really ought to have been part of my main layout program. However, within a week of starting to use InDesign, I feel quite at home. There’s enough carry-through to make life seem familiar, but loads of new intuitive functionality. It’s early days, so I’m sure I’ll find some limitations later, but they haven’t appeared yet.

3 Stars Don’t Upgrade If You Do Books
If you use InDesign for books requiring indexes, do NOT upgrade to this version. InDesign CS3 (for both Windows and Macs) has serious problems with indexing multi-document books that does not exist in CS2. It drops entries and scrambles page numbers seemingly at random, while giving no warning that something has gone wrong. Any index it produces cannot be trusted. Imagine a publisher printing 50,000 copies of a book with a defective index and you get a sense of just how dreadful this problem is. Adobe could be sued for a flaw this serious.

This bug was reported on Adobe forums back in late April, five months ago. I’ve talked to Adobe programmers and staff about it. They can’t do any more than suggest a script that combines multiple documents into one, where the problem apparently doesn’t exist. The real fix is awaiting upper management approval of a “point-release,” which must mean the CS3.1 version. But this fix doesn’t require a point-release. Every few weeks, Adobe’s updater patches CS3 for some trivial reason, typically tweaking Adobe Bridge to sell more stock photos. They could do the same with this dreadful index bug.

Adobe CS3 contains quite a few improvements that make the upgrade worthwhile for most users. But if you create indexes from multidocument books, I suggest you wait until this problem is fixed before upgrading. That’s why I gave it three stars rather than five. And if you don’t hear otherwise, that means InDesign CS3.1.

–Michael W. Perry, author of Untangling Tolkien: A Chronology and Commentary for The Lord of the Rings

3 Stars Still struggling
I have been a PageMaker user FOREVER beginning on my little Mac back in the 1980s (I am now on a Dell). I hated to give it up but when I lost the ability to save my PageMaker 7.0 files as pdf (thanks to installing and then removing a trial version of Adobe Professional 8) I had to switch. The company who prints my 40 page bi-monthly agriculture magazine said it was about time!

Yes, there are some similarities between PM and ID but there are so many “bells and whistles” in ID that I will definately need to be trained on this program. I converted my PM file with very little problem (a few font issues but fixable once I found instructions on Adobe’s Web site) and do find a few things in ID nice to use (i.e., the gradiant feature). I guess my middle of the road rating is that the learning curve is a little higher than with PM. I also miss some things in PM that ID doesn’t appear to do, but they’re minor touches I had grown accustomed to over the years.

One warning…it is a memory hog for sure! It is slow to load (I have 1 GB of RAM running on a 1.86 GHz Pentium processor Dell laptop) and bogs the computer at times when running other programs with it (i.e., Photoshop).

I am optimistic, though, that I will come to enjoy ID almost as much as I loved PM (I even tried using QuarkExpress many, many times and always came back to PM)! Good luck!
