5 Stars Landers Stories & Action Steps Inspire Results!
This is a simple guide for anyone who works from home, or is considering that life-step. It is a good blueprint with stories and a plan any entrepreneur can follow. The 100-Day action plan will be a great motivator for any home based business owner. This alone makes the book worthwhile. The author’s step-by-step format is easily readable and helpful. This book may be an eye opener for struggling entrepreneurs who can’t figure out why their home-based business is not bringing in the big bucks.
Follow the steps, look in the mirror and stick to the “Cure” … And your business will almost certainly benefit from the information. “The Home Office From Hell Cure” is a great book for “newbie” home office entrepreneurs!
5 Stars Whether you actually WANT a home office or have one because you MUST, this book is a must-read!
I’ll get straight to the point: whether you have a home based business by choice or you are simply still in your home office because the financial reality is that right now you simply cannot afford a ‘real’ office, this book is for you.
What really did it for me is the fact that Jeff provides a simple step-by-step 100 day plan that’ll take you exactly where you want to go.
No more overwhelm (where do I start), but simple steps with lots of advice on how to get these steps done and why you need to take them.
I love this book so much I ended up doing an interview and review of this book with Jeff himself. Amazon doesn’t like urls in reviews, so if you want to find the call, google
selfemployedmastery and you should find it. Alternatively, email me.
In the interview Jeff gives a great overview over how exactly the book can help you and also answers a lot of questions other home office owners asked during the call. So, if you want to know
1. the exact formula for setting your home based business on the right track quickly
2. how to identify a profitable niche and also
3. how to then dominate that niche by becoming *the* go-to expert in that niche!do yourself a favour and get this book!
Good luck with transforming your home office from hell to the office of your dreams

4 Stars Works for me
I’m starting up my home based operation (part time so far). I’ve been following the advice so I don’t end up with a “time sucking” sink hole. This isn’t thew only book I’m also using other resources for specific advice, like technology resources, marketing, advertising and publicity. So far, thanks to the advice in “Home Office from Hell Cure,” I think I’ve successfully avoided many pitfalls. Highly recommended for newbies like myself.
5 Stars Wish I Read It Sooner
My husband and I both work from home offices in separate businesses. You can tell that Jeff knows what he’s talking about–he asks the right questions and gives specific advice. I especially enjoyed the the chapter on “Day 14-16″, what and how to out source to improve efficiency. Best of all the advice comes with good humor and support rather than sounding like it comes from your mother in law. I’m ordering this book for a few friends who are in the same boat (different businesses!).2 Stars I did like the “entrepreneur stories” sprinkled throughout the text. They were the one thing I liked about the book.
I did not like this book. I did not like the way it was written. I did not like the way it was outlined. And I did not like the advice that it provides. It has the following 8 chapters and an appendix:
1. Is my home office really the home office from hell?
2. What kind of entrepreneur am I?
3. So you want to be a contender? A primer for growth mavens
4. I want a business that supports my greatest lifestyle! A primer for lifestyle gurus
5. Calling all growth mavens and lifestyle mavans! It’s time to become a nexpert
6. How to become a nexpert 101
7. How to become a nexpert 102
8. From your “home office from hell” to a thriving, growing, innovating success in 100 days
A. The 100-day planAt the end of this book is an advertisement that tells the reader he or she can contact the author who will provide coaching services for a fee. A Web site address is provided and more about the coaching can be learned there. I got the feeling that the author read “Coaching Millions” (ISBN: 097929320) last year and followed the system the author of that book talks about. Even his Web site kind of looks like hers.
The problems I have with this book are many. There are all kinds of home offices, and this book does not clearly explain the different kinds. Some home offices exist because the business cannot support an office outside the home. Some home offices exist because an office outside the home is not needed. And some home offices exist because an office outside the home is only needed some of the time. Furthermore, I did not find it helpful to describe entrepreneurs as growth mavens or lifestyle gurus. Sure, businesses run from home can be in need of growth. But that doesn’t mean they have to grow out of a home office. And businesses run from home can be run so the founder can have a certain lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean that business needs fixing.
Another problem I had with the book is how the author assumes home office businesses are consulting or infopreneur companies. At least that is the message I got when reading chapters 5 through 8 and the appendix. The advice provided was about how to get yourself recognized as an expert in your field. It talks about writing articles, writing books, and doing public speaking. I am curious what this has to do with someone who has a home office for an import/export business or an eBay retail business that uses drop shippers? The point is, the book is very sloppily written.
Most, if not many, businesses run from a home office need a great Web site. There was no discussion of Web sites in this book. There was a mention of them at page 103, but I wanted more, a lot more regarding the necessary online presence for someone running their business in their PJs. However, I did like the “entrepreneur stories” sprinkled throughout the text. They were the one thing I liked about the book.
Apparently the target audience for this book is comprised of people who run a business from home and are not successful. And the advice they should be getting is that they need a sound written business plan to help them be successful. If they don’t already have a business plan, then they need to research and write one. And if they have one, then they need to take a look at it and tweek it so it can be their roadmap to success. Failure to plan is a plan to fail. This is a golden rule in business and I did not see it mentioned anywhere between the covers of this book. And I didn’t see anything about business plans and how to research and write them, either.
The author says this book was written to help a homebased businessperson become more professional, productive, and profitable. This should have included much discussion of business plans. Unfortunately it did not. I liked how the author advised the readers to focus on high-revenue-generating items and let others do the grunt work. But I think that is only good in theory and not so good in practice until the business is really successful. A small business owner has to wear all the hats in the beginning. That includes marketing, operations, bookkeeping, accounting, and legal matters. 2 stars!

Franchising For Dummies For Dummies Business and Personal Finance
Franchising For Dummies For Dummies Business and Personal Finance

Franchising for Dummies, by Michael Seid and Dave Thomas, details everything you need to know about this ever-popular route to self-employment. In typical Dummies fashion, it outlines the basics (from initial research through signing on the dotted line); development procedures (such as training employees, choosing locations, and buying goods); running the business (attracting customers, managing staff, dealing with franchisors); and moving on (considering further acquisitions, franchising your own ideas). Seid, a well-known consultant with 20 years in the field, and Thomas, the high-profile founder of and low-key spokesman for the fast-food chain Wendy’s International, make this volume especially valuable by including inside tips taken from their extensive personal experience. “Too often, franchisees make the mistake of hiring an attorney to do battle with their franchisor, rather than simply sitting down with the franchisor, discussing their concerns, and coming to a negotiated conclusion,” Seid advises at one point. “Training is nonstop, never-ending. It has to be,” Thomas suggests elsewhere. “It has to remain a priority in your business because, one, you have turnover, but two, you can always improve.” The combination provides a clear and complete primer for enlightened decision-making on virtually all aspects of franchise purchase and operation. –Howard Rothman
User Ratings and Reviews
2 Stars Oversimplified, one-sided sales pitch
I read this book from cover to cover before opening my own franchise. In hindsight, I admit that this book gave some pretty horrible advise. It doesn’t give you a real sense of how to investigate a franchise, nor does it prepare you for the negotiations with the franchisor. It doesn’t help you to really evaluate a franchisor nor does it explain the myriads of pitfalls that can befall a franchisee.
This book really was a light-hearted sales pitch to encourage you to buy a franchise. It doesn’t really explain the advantages of running your own business sans the franchise system.
After reading this book, I was still a dummy and made one of the worse mistakes in my life when I purchased a Friendly Computers franchise.
4 Stars One of the Best Franchising books ever !
This book is very very good. A broad approach to all Franchising aspects. And it brings a very useful CD with it. Very good buy.
2 Stars There must be better books on franchising
Michael Seid’s extensive experience yields some useful insights and he explains many of the steps involved in franchising, but the book reads too much like advertorial and Seid spends way too much time trumpeting his own accomplishments. (Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas’ contributions to the book are woefully slim and including him as a coauthor seems to serve more as a marketing tool.) Franchising for Dummies would be a worthwhile addition to your library on the subject, but if you’re looking for a single, objective, authoritarian source on the subject, keep looking.
5 Stars A Must-Read for anyone considering buying a franchise
I read Franchising for Dummies before deciding to franchise my business concept, Moving Solutions. I found it helpful as a franchisor, by clarifying the issues from the franchisee’s perspective and identifying the characteristics I need to look for in successful franchisees. The book’s main premise –that franchising is a governed by contracts but it really about trust and relationhsips –resonates with my own values. We recommend Franchising for Dummies to every prospect who contacts us as a Must-Read before we begin the evaluation process.
5 Stars Great Information
This book is a excellent source for information. Breaks everything down into understandable sections. A must have for anyone thinking about getting into a Franchise.

1 Star Worst Business Accounting Program Ever
I will preface this by stating that I have never submitted a product review before, but feel so strongly about Peachtree Premium Accounting 2008 that I am submitting this review.
This is simply the very worst business accounting software I have ever used.
I am a finance professional by trade and the interface in this software makes little sense. There is no editable transaction ledger for non-cash accounts. For example, if your business has a credit card, you will enter each transaction (as a “check”) while not being able to see other transactions. If you want to view the history of the account, you have to generate a report and if it doesn’t reconcile, it is VERY VERY difficult to get to the erroneous transaction. The makers of this software have very clearly never run a small business.
Also of note, the company data is stored in a series of files, not one file, and cannot be stored on a file server (Peachtree won’t open it). You HAVE to store the files on a system with Peachtree installed.
Finally, after registering this software, you will be inundated with offers for support packages for the software.
1 Star This is a downgrade. Excruciatingly slow!
I have been a Peachtree customer for over 17 years. I had not upgraded for a few years and felt this would be the time to do so. Some of the new features looked quite attractive. The first thing I noticed after insalling the multi-user version on my network is that they had changed the datbase from the Novell btrieve format to Pervasive SQL. I thought this would be good as I have usually noticed SQL databases run faster. Boy was I mistaken. The program ran so slow it was unusable. Different windows might take 30 seconds to pop up and another screen would take 20 seconds to save. The confusing thing was the behavior was not consistent it would run fast for a few transactions then revert to running slow. Peachtree technical support told me my server was not fast enough to handle the new version even though all my other software programs ran fine on the network. I should have been suspicious because Peachtree ran this slow even when I was the only one using the network. Nevertheless, I bought a new $3,600 Server and much to my dismay Peachtree ran just as slow. Then Peachtree Technical support claimed it was my network switch so I bought a newer one for $650. No improvement. I could see what was coming next. They claimed it was my workstations. I was about to upgrade the 3 bookkeeping computers anyway so I spent $1,950 each to buy very fast systems for the 3 of them. Still no change. I have searched around the Internet and found that I am not the only one to have these problems. It seems that the newest versions of Peachtree with the Pervasive SQL database where only designed to be run in Single user mode and not on a network. They built the network functions on later. I am very upset with Peachtree technical support for lying to me. If they would have told me the truth that there where some problems with the network abilities in the new version of Peachtree and that they were working on them, I would have saved thousands of dollars in new hardware that they claimed I needed. The last thing they told me was that I just needed to upgrade to Peachtree Quantum Accounting because it ran much faster. That would cost me thousands more. They must be kidding. I will never trust them again. My old version ran fine but they tell me there is now way to downgrade my data files. I am looking around for another brand of software now. If it can painlessly convert my Peachtree data I will switch.

5 Stars WhiteMt
Turbo Tax products are very user friendly and believe accurate. Would apprecaite their including Sub-Charpter S Corp in with Home Business Software as the purpose of Sub-S are the same as LLC.
Have used Turbo Tax off and on for many years. Tried others but never the same or user friendly as Turbo Tax. Best Tax Software on the Market.
5 Stars TurboTax-Business Rocks
As a tax preparer, I often use this product to generate one of the many types of K-1 necessary for clients. It is fairly easy to use.
4 Stars Cheaper than a CPA
Last year, I paid a CPA almost $400.00 to do my small business taxes for an LLC. Everyone told me that was a “good price.” It was the first year with the business and I figured I couldn’t do the taxes on my own. This year, after reading some reviews by other consumers, I decided to go with TurboTax for the business. I had used it in the past for my personal taxes with great success. I found a few glitches, but for less than $100.00, my taxes are already done and in the mail. Hopefully, I won’t be audited…but so far so good. Even if you can’t understand the government’s instructions, you are likely to easily understand Turbotax’s instructions and THEY DO THE MATH. I highly recommend Turbotax.
4 Stars Worked okay for a complex trust (Form 1041)
I was a little cautious about using TurboTax for what I bought it for. On their website, I looked to see what they offered for doing taxes on a trust and this is what it told me to buy. Given that all of the advertising was for small businesses, I wondered if this would really do the trick.
So far, so good. I haven’t heard back from the IRS and the tax that the program calculated was consistent with what I’ve paid in past years. For the last three years, I’ve used a CPA who has charged $400-$500 to prepare the return for a trust. This year, it was me, turbotax, and about four hours on a Saturday. There were one or two places where I didn’t really understand how I was supposed to account for something and I doubt that I would have been able to do this solely with the software. It was very useful to have a few years of past returns to see how/why certain things had been done in the past. If you have some familiarity with the tax law and some idea what you’re doing, I would strongly recommend the product (I plan on doing the same thing next year). However, if you’re not terribly comfortable with taxes and have a trust with anything more than the basics, the user-friendliness of this product isn’t quite up to the level as some of Turbotax’s offerings for personal returns.
1 Star Rip-Off
I wish I had paid more attention to the guy who said that the sofware would not import. I struggled hours trying to import. The software seemed to indicate I could import, like TurboTax Delux. The software sent me in circles, sending me back to the same pages for answers. The Customer Support took three days, so I had to file an extension to IRS.
Even if I could have imported, the software is not very user friendly. I will attempt to get a refund, but it is hard to contact them on that issue — easy to order software (I ordered it online, to save time), easy to send e-mails to ask a question, easy to order help at $39 a call, not easy to get refunds.
Again, don’t bother with this software. But I don’t know an alternative other than an accountant. Maybe some day they will improve the software.

5 Stars How to buy, sell & profit on eBay by Adam Ginsberg
Very instructive book for people who want to sell or buy on eBay. The book provides all the necessary & indispensable knowledge of that E Market.
5 Stars Read this book is one sitting…
What really stood out for me was the writing style of the book. It was conversational with great stories that were fun and interesting.
Along with great tips, this book is not written in the typical “textbook” format. I read the entire book in less than a day and would definitely encourage anyone to read it!
4 Stars Fundamental, “Good Tips” book
I think that this book provided some good tips and a basic general understanding of how ebay and the ebay community works. However, specifics are not present. For example,I would like to have read more information about international and domestic shipping and about drop shippers. It has the normal motivational spillage thats in all these type of books. It is a easy read.
5 Stars This book will explode your sales on eBay!!!
Adam is the eBay expert! He learned from experience and you get to benefit from that experience and make money sooner and make more per product as a result of Adam’s book.
I have read his book and taken his course and I continue to learn from Adam. One of the hardest things in marketing is to sell to someone that you don’t get to meet, learn about them, pick what things are important to that customer and explain how your product would benefit them. On eBay you have to rely on your product page on eBay to say it all. Adam tells you how to set it up, what to include and what not to do.
Once you sell your product you have to have systems in place to deliver the product and to have all of your eBay business parts working properly. I am the author of Turning Your Dream Business Into Your Bread & Butter: Recipes for Running a Successful Business from Scratch and this book has over 500 strategies, in an easy to read format, to help eBay business owner be successful and stay in business. Turning Your Dream Business Into Your Bread & Butter: Recipes for Running a Successful Business from Scratch
2 Stars Only for the newbie
Just finished the book last night hoping to find ideas that I could implement in my eBay sales. No real new info here. More geared for the eBay novice. If you have any experience buying or selling on eBay you already know 99% of the info provided in this book.
I found it odd that the author claims to have sold a 4 year old pair of very worn sneakers on eBay for $21 in the beginning of the book and then talks about it again later in the book but the sale price was $26.
Also, the author refers you to links to third party paid services which he owns.
